Welcome to "Meet the Kelp". Today, we'd like to introduce you to Turkish Towel!
Well… Turkish Towel is not really kelp, it's seaweed! But we still love it!!
Turkish Towel is more specifically a red seaweed, although its colour ranges from various shades of reds to dark purples, yellows, greens, and deep to pale pinks.
However, this seaweed is most noteworthy for its broad, thick blades covered with small bumps (papillae), thereby resembling a thick bath towel. In fact, some people put this seaweed to work as a natural towel or loofah!
Turkish towel is also valuable as a thickener for food and other products like toothpaste. It is rich in B12 and is a great addition to many home recipes.
As you can probably tell, this seaweed is one of Sea Forest's favourites! We love that this species is local and grows wild at our farms. It is one that we hope to cultivate shoreside soon!
